In this blog we shall show you how to create a WhatsApp link with a pre-filled message and also give you a few reasons on why you should use them.
Why should you use WhatsApp links with pre-filled messages?
Marketing
WhatsApp links with pre-filled messages are great for helping you to track your marketing activity. If you have a number of landing pages for example, have a different pre-filled message link for each page so that you can see where the traffic is being driven from.
Automation
Another reason is to start a conversation with a virtual assistant bot. By using phrases you can provide customers with additional information or route the chat to the correct member or team within your business.
Ease
By using a WhatsApp link a conversation can be started with your business without the user having to save your number to their contacts.
How do you create a WhatsApp link with pre-filled messages?
This basis of the link starts in this format:
https://wa.me/number?text=message
There are then two replacements that need to happen to set up your link correctly:
- replace "number" with the number of your WhatsApp account in international format. For example, in the UK, this is 44 and you drop the 0 at the start of the number.
- replace "message" with the text that you want pre-filled when the user clicks the WhatsApp link to start a chat with your business. You need to replace any spaces with %20 for this to work.
An example of this is if you want to start a chat with Stitch to explore our WhatsApp services in more detail. Here is the link that needs to be created:
